PROBLEM

People seem to think because UO doesn’t have an engineering school that they don't do STEM.

So we just showed them all the engineers who have come from UO.

Humans are inherently silly creatures. If things aren’t spelled out for them, oftentimes they could just as well not exist. So the thinking went with the University of Oregon – if they don’t have an engineering school, they can’t possibly be good for STEM. Nevermind the countless engineers who have come out of the University or the state of the art labs and professors filling them. No School, No STEM.

So we helped the recruiters and guidance counselors out a bit. We made a program that aggregated all the data the university had gathered on what alumni’s jobs were and the courses they took during their time at UO. We tied it into curriculums based on every major you could graduate with and then asked a simple question:

“What are you interested in?”

Then we showed them all the majors that could be applicable, people who had jobs in that field, and the courses required to get there. Simple. It’s one thing to try to explain the value of a liberal arts education en route to becoming an engineer, it’s another to just show actual engineers and what they took to get there.

Here’s how it works:
